My Suggestions For LW

by @Ry1 year ago

Ideas for LW when The Hiatus is over:

  1. Proximity sensor: Will turn on when a player is near them (maybe have an adjustable range???)
  2. Looking Sensor: Will turn on when a player looks at them (will only work if player is close enough, sorta like keys)
  3. Lockable menus: If you don’t want to open up a components menu by accident then you could lock it, when it’s locked you can’t open it unless you press the mod key (or any key you like) and click it.
  4. When you resize a board, if all components that would be floating can be moved and make other components move so they are not floating, you can still resize the board.with this board, if you wanted to make it smaller on the right side, it would move some of the components left to do that.

  • 5. Multi-Grab: you select a rectangle of squares on a board and move all the components in that rectangle. It might also be possible to move components on the ground as well.
  • 6.Rich text(bold, italics etc…)/Images in labels

Great ideas, I like the idea of lockable menus. (you could just try setting double tap hotkeys as well)

Proximity sensor: Will turn on when a player is near them (maybe have an adjustable range???)

I think this is best left to mods. It feels somewhat arbitrary and out of place among the other components.

However, I’ve been thinking of making Buttons act like pressure plates, so they can be pressed by a player (or any physics object) being on top of them. Perhaps that would work as a way of detecting when a player is in position?

Looking Sensor: Will turn on when a player looks at them (will only work if player is close enough, sorta like keys)

In what situation would a Looking Sensor work, but a Button would not? Additionally, much like the Proximity Sensor, this feels somewhat arbitrary and out of place among the other components.

Lockable menus: If you don’t want to open up a components menu by accident then you could lock it, when it’s locked you can’t open it unless you press the mod key (or any key you like) and click it.

What situation would you use this in? I have personally never opened a menu by accident…

When you resize a board, if all components that would be floating can be moved and make other components move so they are not floating, you can still resize the board.with this board, if you wanted to make it smaller on the right side, it would move some of the components left to do that.

This would be awesome, but unfortunately it would also be a nightmare to code.

Multi-Grab: you select a rectangle of squares on a board and move all the components in that rectangle. It might also be possible to move components on the ground as well.

I really really want to do a multi-select UI, so you can move, clone, and delete components in groups. Unfortunately this will have to wait until after 1.0.

Rich text(bold, italics etc…)/Images in labels

Little-known feature, Labels already support all of Unity’s rich text tags ;o

Thanks for all the cool ideas and suggestions!

Awesome suggestions, @Ry, I think the Multi-Grab would be super useful!
