New Website: Keep calm and report to Pipe01

by @Ecconia1 year ago

Recently before going in vacation @pipe01 updated the website to the new version. (Reason: something about better backend)

Since then there have been a bunch of issues (on top of old issues), which we have to endure.

In the comments of this post, I will collect bugs I encountered and send each comment’s link to pipe01. Feel free to participate in this thread!
Just comment whatever annoys you, just bring a good reason along.

The new website is not an SPA anymore. I personally doesn’t like that, due to a bunch of reasons. But that is not for us to decide - since its a major backend/frontend change. So lets not comment that.

Happy reporting!

The “More Logic World Wednesdays” Link on all the LWW posts still lead to https://logicworld.net/forum/1 instead of https://logicworld.net/view/frm-devupdts

The old website used \n as a newline. While the new one is strongly bound to markdown.
I don’t like that we now have to append \ or double-space at the end of a line to get a normal newline. Its horrible and not intuitive at all.
On top of that ALL the old websites comments used \n as normal newline which now don’t work anymore, thus all old comments look ugly now and are thus pretty much useless.

LogicWorld newsletter emails used to be sent from newsletter@logicworld.net which makes it really nice to mark them as important and sort them automatically. No they get sent from noreply@... which removes the difference to other less important notification emails (comment’s etc).
On top Gmail since some recent changes dumps the LWW emails into the spam folder consistently. I am not sure if everything is okay with it, or my my Gmail is just a male genital.
However the new “sender-name” which is Logic World is better than noreply.
It would be awesome if you use the old email for the newsletter again.

Feature-Requst: Possibility to fold comments and long posts.
Well not much demand yet, but there is this freak: https://logicworld.net/view/pst-000f007d/many-questions-and-stuff-by-ecconia

LW-Logo in top left corner becomes horribly unsharp when the website is zoomed in (mine is most of the time).
Got an SVG version?

Date-format, I highly dislike the US system, it doesn’t make any sense. Either yyyy.mm.dd or dd.mm.yyyy, preferably the first one.
Well other users might have different preferences, how about a user setting for that (eventually)?
Or is there already a support for multiple dates, depending on browser things? My browser sends weird stuff like en,de-DE;q=0.9,de;q=0.8,en-US;q=0.7

Its not possible to update a post title. Is that intentional?
I would like to make the p in your name lowercase.

Is it really a good idea to put the title in the link?

HTML tags don’t get escaped in comments (probably also not in posts).
< etc, doesn’t work….

Workaround here just wrap with backticks `

The header bar is always “dark”.
But on mobiles the browsers elements are white. There is some HTML snipped for the <head> section which colors the mobile browser: <meta name="theme-color" content="#ff6600" />.

Pinging users via post or comment doesn’t work (also user pages and inbox are missing…. but yes WIP).
Well not highlighting it might help to not cause users complain about the user page.

In the old website whenever you started a thread, it was already marked as “liked” (by yourself).
In the new website that is not the case.
Its not a bug, but liking your own posts is something called “fame-who**” or so. So when it is already liked by yourself, you don’t actively have this ethical issue and as a bonus, starting a thread gives a heart.
I am not sure how to handle this. We can keep it as is, but I wonder what your thoughts on this are @pipe01

Logging yourself out lets you stay on the current website.
Logging in however does forward you to the main-page.
I assume this is a bug/missing feature, since often one has to login to interact with the current page.

Although editing comments is possible (the changes are visible whenever pressing the “Edit” button), the rendered version is not always the latest version. pipe01 assumes its a caching issue.

Heh, it can be updated by creating a new comment.

Newlines are not rendered in posts although when pressing “Edit” they are visible in the textbox.

Edit: Seems to be fixed.
